Competition Rules

Competition rules have been introduced to ensure a fair and sportsmanlike competition is undertaken and to limit any stress placed on the fish. All competitors must follow and accept these rules. Failure to comply may result in disqualification.

1.       Children under 14 may enter the competition. They may be accompanied by an adult who can lend assistance to the competitor. This assistance will not include casting, reeling or hooking fish but may include help with landing and removing hooks from fish caught. The judges may limit the assistance if it is deemed to be an unfair advantage for that competitor.

2.       A bell will be used to signal the start and finish of each 25 minute slot. On commencement competitors may not cast into ponds until the bell has sounded. At completion of the 25 minutes the bell will sound again. Once the bell has sounded competitors may not recast into the ponds and must move off the station within five minutes.

3.       Once the bell has sounded to end the 25 minute session only fish that have been landed in the net will be counted. Any fish that has been hooked but has not been landed will not count in the final weight tally.

4.       Name tags with competitor number must be visible to the judges at all times.

5.       Only fishing equipment and tackle normally available in fishing tackle shops and normally used to fish for trout can be used in the competition. The judges may rule other equipment and/or tackle inappropriate prior to and during any heat. At that time the competitor must cease using such equipment and/or tackle.

6.       Maximum breaking strain of line or leaders is 12lb

7.       Competitors may only use one rod at any one time. Flies, lures, spinners, live baits and soft plastics can be used in this competition. All hooks must be barbless or have the barbs removed using pliers or file. Fish caught with barbed hooks will not be included in the final fish weight tally. Only one fly, lure, spinner or baited hook can be used at any one time.

8.        Burly or any other fish attractant cannot be used by competitors. Any baits derived in whole or in part from commercial fish or animal feed or meal cannot be utilized.

9.       All fish caught must be landed utilizing a net while the fish is still in the water. The fish are then to be placed in the tub provided at each station until the judges have weighed the fish and released it back into the water.

10.   Any fish damaged by roughly landing the fish or by any other malicious act against the fish will result in the fish being purchased by that competitor and possible disqualification.

11.   Fish weight will be determined by the judges by weight net or other means. No discussion about the methods or weights can be undertaken by the competitors. The judges decision is final.

12.   fishing edict and good sportsmanship must be observed at all times. If for any reason whatsoever the judges believe competitors are not competing in an appropriate manner the competitor may be disqualified

13.   From time to time the judges have the right to alter or introduce rules during the heats if it is the opinion of the judges that a competitor has gained an unfair advantage or competitors actions are not in the true sportsmanlike nature of the competition or fish are being unduly stressed. If any rule changes or additions are made competitors will be notified and will automatically comply with these rule changes
